And Lent continues...
We are so blessed to have musicians who love to serve in our community. We are blessed to have parish students who auditioned for Region Band and All State Band. Many of them made one of those groups (and also All State Orchestra). To them and their families, I say congratulations! Well done, good and faithful servant - for continuing to hone the gifts God has given you, to share not only with the ones you love, not only for a grade or at church, but to go out bravely among strangers and share those gifts with others - to be part of something larger than yourself - yes, that deserves a well done!
For those students and anyone who did not make one of the bands or orchestras or choirs - in your preparation you stretched yourself, you grew and you reached for something. Keep reaching - we don't always get what we want, but as children of God - yes, as the old rock and roll song says - we get what we need! For God provides in many and beautiful ways.
That has happened time and time again and continues forward today. As we continue in Lent, know that we have members (1 adult and 1 youth) who will each play Trumpet in worship at 8:30 and 11:00 on Lent 4 - march 19th. Our Ladies' Trios will sing in worship on March 26th at those services. Chris Morgan will return on March 26th and be with us through Palm Sunday, bringing special music.
For Palm/Passion Sunday, our 8:30 and 11:00 Choirs will bring Hopsons' arrangement of "What Have We Done" with a special soloist, from the choirs.
I'll post more soon about the rest of Holy Week and Worship and Music.
We are indeed blessed to have singers, instrumentalists and more who bring the art of music into our worship and community life. Thanks be to God - and please don't take them for granted. Each one of them is a gift - and during this time of Lent, you might take up a new practice - thank a musician wherever and wheneverr you see them sharing their gifts.
As always, I wish you peace and strength in these days,
Deacon Kathleen
